With electromagnetism, you can absolutely pull a bicycle toward a vehicle, but the physics dictates that it requires an entirely different setup than the movie scenario. It cannot be done using a static magnet hidden inside a car's engine bay to pull an object across empty air from 2 meters away.

To use electromagnetism to attract a bicycle in the real world, you must utilize the principles of induction, eddy currents, and linear motors—the exact same technology used to propel and levitate Maglev trains. [1] 

Here is exactly how real-world physics allows electromagnetism to pull a bicycle:

## 1. The Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) Approach

If you want to pull a bicycle using electromagnetism, you cannot rely on simple attraction; you must turn the car and the bicycle into a [Linear Induction Motor (LIM)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_induction_motor).

* How it works: Instead of a regular magnet, the side of the car must feature an array of electromagnets powered by high-frequency Alternating Current (AC).

* The Physics: As the car passes, this moving AC magnetic field sweeps across the bicycle frame. Even if the bike is made of non-magnetic aluminum, the changing magnetic field forces electrical currents (called eddy currents) to circulate inside the bike's metal frame. [2] 

* The Attraction: These eddy currents create their own temporary magnetic field that fights against the car's field. By precisely timing and shifting the electrical phases along the side of the car, the car's electromagnets can literally "hook" onto this induced field and drag or pull the bicycle sideways through the air. ## 2. The "Magnetic Harpoon" (Reluctance Launch)

If you want a car to pull a bicycle from a distance instantly, engineers use a Coilgun or Gauss Rifle mechanism.

* How it works: You place a series of electromagnetic coils inside a launching tube on the car. Inside the tube is a steel anchor attached to a high-strength cable.

* The Physics: When a massive pulse of electricity from a capacitor bank is dumped into the coils, it creates a powerful magnetic field that violently sucks the steel anchor forward, launching it out of the tube at high speed.

* The Attraction: The magnetic projectile flies across the 2-meter gap, clamps onto the bicycle, and the car's motorized winch reels the cable back in, pulling the bicycle directly to the car.

## 3. The Eddy Current Braking Effect (Slowing it down)

If a car has incredibly powerful magnets and drives fast past a copper or aluminum bicycle, it can violently interact with the bike without ever touching it.

* The Physics: According to [Lenz's Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenz%27s_law), when a conductor (the bike) moves through a magnetic field (from the car), it creates an electromagnetic force that opposes the motion. [5, 6, 7] 

* While it won't cleanly lift the bicycle up into the air like a tractor beam, the magnetic drag will instantly transfer energy to the bike, causing it to violently jerk forward or twist toward the direction of the passing car.

## Why the 2-Meter Gap is the Ultimate Boundary
In all of these working physics applications, the car and the object must be incredibly close (usually a few centimeters, like a Maglev train on its track) because of the Inverse-Cube Law of magnetism. To make it work across a 2-meter gap through empty air without cables, the electrical power system required would be so massive it would fill an entire power substation, making it impossible to fit inside a standard moving car.
